MSW Program Matcher

Which MSW Program Is Right for You?

The right MSW fits how and when you can study, whether you already hold a BSW, the kind of social work you want to do and what you can pay. Answer the questions below and the matcher ranks the 530 verified programs on this site against your answers, showing why each one fits and where it falls short.

Your Matches

Results update as you answer. Estimated tuition is the published per-credit rate times the stated credits (or the advanced standing credits, if you hold a BSW), before fees, or the school's published total.

How the Matching Works

Every program in the matcher comes from the school's own pages, checked in September 2026: formats, part-time plans, credits, advanced standing credits and eligibility, field education hours, published tuition, GRE policy in the school's words and specializations. CSWE status comes only from CSWE's directory. Must-haves remove programs; preferences add points. A program that publishes no estimate is never dropped for cost unless you set a budget, and then it's marked so you can check the price yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Does the MSW Program Matcher Choose Programs?

It checks your answers against the 530 MSW programs on this site. Anything you mark as a must-have (format, part time, CSWE accreditation, no GRE, advanced standing) removes programs that don't meet it. Everything else adds points, and ties go to the lower estimated tuition.

Why Do Some Programs Show No Estimated Tuition?

349 programs publish enough to estimate tuition (a per-credit rate and the credits, or a program total). Others publish tuition per term or per year, or only through a calculator. The matcher never guesses a price; open the program page to see what the school publishes.

Should You Only Consider CSWE-Accredited Programs?

For licensure, yes in practice: state boards require a degree from a CSWE-accredited program. Programs in candidacy are working toward accreditation; CSWE treats students who graduate after a program earns initial accreditation as graduates of an accredited program, so check the expected date before you enroll.

What Does Advanced Standing Change?

If you hold a BSW from a CSWE-accredited program, advanced standing lets you skip the foundation year and finish the MSW in roughly half the credits. Eligibility rules (how recent the BSW is, minimum GPA) vary by school; the matcher shows each school's rule on the program page.

Are Sponsored Programs Part of the Results?

No. Matches come only from the verified program records on this site. Sponsored listings appear separately and are labeled as ads.
